Nearly 45% of all dementia cases may be prevented or delayed.

Our Club focuses on lowering your risk. All science, no fads.

What We Do

The FINGER Study, short for the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study, was a landmark study that investigated whether a comprehensive lifestyle intervention could prevent or delay cognitive decline in elderly individuals.

The results were clear. A combination of physical activity, nutritional guidance, cognitive training, social activities and management of heart-health risk factors can improve cognitive functioning and decrease risk for dementia by 30%. No current pharmacological treatments rival this effect.

The findings from the FINGER study are being replicated across the globe.

The California Brain Health Club models itself off of the FINGER Study, by offering a 30-day dementia prevention “boot camp.” In this boot camp, participants will learn how to modify their diet, improve their sleep, undergo rigorous cognitive training, engage in physical exercise, and socialize with new friends. This boot camp will teach you what you need to do to reduce your risk, and will partner with you to implement these changes.

After two years of lifestyle change in the FINGER study, participants’ cognitive skills improved.

Risk for dementia dropped by 30%.

The FINGER Study: Ngandu, Kivipelto, et al. Lancet 2015

The FINGER study was a landmark study that demonstrated that comprehensive lifestyle change can reduce dementia risk.

In 2018, FINGERS trials had been planned in several European countries, the United States, China, Singapore and Australia. Similar efforts are being planned in Central and South America, Canada, India, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia.

The United States has recently completed the POINTER trial, modeled after the FINGER study. Results are pending.
